About the Role
Our client is a well known local government statutory body, and water distribution utility organisation. They are currently seeking a Financial Accountant to come in and join their team based in Fortitude Valley QLD on a temp contract basis until 31st March 2026 with possible extensions.
Candidates for this role must possess the following:
- CA/CPA Qualification (or working towards)
- Technical Accounting Expertise
- Journal Preparation and Processing experience.
As the Financial Accountant you will provide critical support to Accounting and Assurance functions. This includes the design, testing and documentation of financial controls, ensuring that financial transactions and reports are recorded in accordance with relevant accounting standards and regulations. The Accountant also supports external financial reporting requirements as well as the delivery of the annual external audit plan.
The Financial Accountant also contributes to the delivery of timely and accurate processing of financial transactions. This includes the preparation and posting of journals to the finance system plus the preparation and review of account reconciliations.
Key responsibilities include:
- Financial Accounting Management and Control: Delivers accurate and timely financial accounting and reconciliation functions. Design, Implement and monitor controls across financial processes and systems. Ensure financial processes and procedures provide an appropriate first line of defence, adhere to the organisation's policies and procedures, legislation and regulatory codes, taking appropriate action to report and resolve any identified non-compliance risk or issues
- Policies and Procedures Development: Lead the development, testing, and maintenance of accounting procedures and guidelines to support the organisation in the implementation of, and compliance with, internal policies and/or external regulations.
- Financial Reporting: Produce complex financial information, ensuring the accurate completion of a key strand of the process to contribute to the production of statutory and non-statutory reports and other disclosures.
- Financial Insights and Analysis: Contribute to the design and creation of reporting strategies and templates. Lead execution of complex reports, identifying and interpreting complex patterns and trends, and translating those insights into actionable recommendations.
- Financial Audit Management: Develop and/or deliver a plan for significant aspects of audit control with guidance from senior colleagues.
- Business Process Improvement/Innovation Identify shortcomings in existing business practices and using established change management programs to address them working with guidance from senior colleagues.
- Financial Information Systems: Support the implementation of financial systems process changes and enhancements; ensure all changes are effectively implemented.
About You
You will be an experienced Financial Accountant with proven experience and reliability in previous positions.
The successful candidate will possess:
- CA/CPA Qualification (or working towards)
- Previous experience and tenure as a Financial Accountant
- Technical Accounting Expertise
- Journal Preparation and Processing experience.
